Temple of Doom was fine, but it's not something I've seen since I was a child. Crusade was my favorite, the right age, the right time, so Raiders, Temple of Doom was cheesy, and Crystal Skull has grown up but is abysmal for its time, the rest stand up for its times. For me it's Raiders, Crusade, Doom and Crystal. Raiders is my favorite and Crusade is a lot of fun.
I didn't like Crystal before, but I recently changed my mind after watching some videos based on her. Especially since it is set in the 50s and everyone was obsessed with the extraterrestrial at that time. It makes sense that the mystery is related to aliens. Seriously, yes, apart from some old sound effects (more in Last Crusade than in Raiders), they remain excellent.
Raiders is brilliant and Last Crusade manages to overcome it in my opinion. Temple of Doom isn't very good (they literally made a 1930 adventure movie), but it's worth watching. The first film, In Search of the Lost Ark, is one of the greatest achievements in film history. You'll never see a better movie in the adventure genre.
Literally, almost every scene in this movie is perfect. I can't emphasize enough how good this film is. Spielberg was 34 years old while he was making the film. I have no idea how a 30-year-old could already have enough experience to create a masterpiece like that.
The cinematography and score are nothing short of dazzling, as are the acting and the sets. I almost voted for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull just because I feel a little sorry for it. While I think Raiders is in many ways the best and I would never argue thinking that, Temple Of Doom has always been my favorite and the one that I find most entertaining. I think the first two have a considerable advantage over the next two films, but overall, a very entertaining and classic series.
I hope the fifth will be a worthy ending. Last Crusade Raiders Temple of Doom For the OP, you don't like The Last Crusade because you find it too clingy and silly in parts, but your favorite is Doom? How is it that Shortround fighting adult men isn't silly and how is it that opening with the antidote kicking isn't silly? Last Crusade Raiders Temple of doom Crystal skull Crusade is the best thing for me because it had everything the first one had, but even better chemistry between the characters. It's just that I love it. Raiders is the second but it's still an incredible film.
Temple Of Doom I still love it because of its very different tone and setting, but outside of the original 3 it is the last one. Kingdom is actually a normal movie. Not even on the same planet as Original 3, but it's not all terrible, just meh. From there, the film unfolds as a moral journey in the tradition of Joseph Campbell, as Indiana suffers defeat after defeat (leading the Nazis to the medallion and then eventually to the Ark) before the tides change through moral transformation as Indiana abandons its selfish motives and learns to care about the people.
instead of idols, first in abandoning the Ark to pursue Marian, and then in their rejection of the quest for power that the film shows as so self-destructive in the end.
